They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Mark 2:17
Jesus came to this world among many other things to heal the sick and set the afflicted free. This is clearly stated in Luke 4: 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised” This He has committed into our care when He was leaving this world as clearly stated in John 20:21 “As my father has sent me even so send I you”
Jesus is the great physician; He is the one who can heal this sin-sick world. And His blood is the healing balm for all incurable diseases. “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” Isaiah 53:4 – 5
We are here to proclaim the message of healing to the dying world. Healing is part of the core mandate of Jesus’ ministry and this has been committed into our hands. “Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” James 5: 14 – 16
The healing provision is already available for the sick and the oppressed, ours is just to proclaim the message of hope which has already been given unto us by our Lord Jesus Christ. “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!” Isaiah 52:7
“Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me; … but the righteous into life eternal” Matt. 25:36, 46b
As we extend the healing hand of Jesus unto the sick, may we inherit eternal life in return in Jesus name.
Jesus is Lord!
