Topic: WONDERFUL SEEDS
Bible text: ZECHARIAH 3:8
Listen, High Priest Joshua, you and your associates seated before you, who are men symbolic of things to come: I am going to bring my servant, the Branch.
INTRODUCTION
The arrival of children in any family is often met with fanfare and celebration. Children bring
with them joy and happiness. The atmosphere where a newborn is is always full of excitement.
No matter how many births of children a person witnesses, they will still be filled with awe and
wonder each time they witness a new one. The new parents’ sense of wonder is often greater
than that of others and for a long time their joy knows no bounds.
EXPOSITION
Children are wonderful seeds. For a seed to grow and bring forth fruit, it requires nurturing, care
and patience. It needs adequate amount of water and sun. It must also have been planted in a
fertile land. Just like seeds, children need guidance, love, and care. The water and sunlight that a
seed needs to germinate can be likened to the food that humans eat in order to grow.
But for children, food alone is not enough to reach one’s full potential. The land in which they are planted, that is their parents and guardians also play a major role in determining their growth. It is when children are led on the right path and taught the right things that they reach their
potential. That is when they can be seeds full of wonder. That is, seeds whose growth is so
wonderful that their growth elicits feeling of wonder and awe from those who see them.
The future of a nation can be determined by how the children of such a nation are being raised. The values they are imbibed with, the type of education they get, their spiritual and how they
handle finance are all contributing factors.
In our text, the Lord was speaking to Joshua and those who were seated around him. The Lord
called them “men symbolic of things to come”. Which means they represent the future.
They are the future. When the adults are no longer around, they will take over. Children are always around their parents, watching them, learning and picking things up along the way. Parents should learn
to be good role models to their children so that the good plans that God has for them can come to
pass.
CONCLUSION
Children are wonderful gifts from God. They are like seeds that grow to spread their branches
and produce fruits in hundreds and thousands. This cannot happen if they are not nutured the
right way. The right way of nurturing and caring for them in order to for them to reach their full
potential is lead them along the path of God. To let them know God at a young age. Teach them
how to pray, to read the word of God, to meditate and to build a strong fellowship with God. The
should learn honesty, diligence, selflessness, cleaningness and all values that will make them
become responsible individuals who are capable of being in charge of important matters and
positions.
