GROWING IN THE FAITH

BUILDING TO LAST (BIBLE STUDY) GUIDELINES

THEME: UNDERSTANDING THE TIMES AND SEASONS

TOPIC: GROWING IN THE FAITH

BIBLE TEXT: 1 TIMOTHY 4:1-6

Introduction:
Wisdom is knowing what to do and doing it. Having the knowledge of the times and seasons we are in God’s agenda for the earth will help us to give ourselves to doing the things that are needful and that will add up to our expectation as saints waiting for the return of our saviour.

A couple of weeks back, we have been looking at the events that will occur as we prepare for the day of the Lord’s return and the importance of identifying our offices and roles in building the kingdom of God.

1 Timothy 4:1 specifically points out one of the major happenings in the last days. “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils” Hence, our need to be deliberate in building/growing our faith to stand in these last days.

Why do we need to build our faith in these last days?
We need to build our faith life to match up with God’s demand of us in these last days. (Eph 6:10-18) Emphasis on verse 16. We need to build our faith so as to be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked in these last days.

We need faith to fight a good fight against the works of the flesh and lay hold on eternal life. (1 Timothy 6:6-12) Lay hold on faith so that you will not be carried away with covetousness, greed, and worldliness.

Faith is required for our daily living. The just shall live by faith. God does not have anything to do with anyone operating outside of faith. (Hab. 2:4, Rom.1:17, Gal. 3:11, Heb. 10:38)

How do we grow our faith?

  • Our faith is expected to grow from one level to another on a daily basis for us to stand and remain standing in the Lord.
  • By studying the word of God. (Rom. 10:17, Acts 20:32)
  • Puting the word to work (by taking heed to the word of God.) (Ps. 119:9-11, James 1:21-25)
  • Continue in the word. (2 Timothy 3: 14-17)
  • Praying in the Holy Ghost. (Jude 20)
